OpenHive Honey

OpenHive is a conservation driven beekeeping initiative founded by Kyle Petrie, Mark Earley, and Jack McGrath. Their mission is to rear and breed the native Irish black honey bee using sustainable, low intervention methods that support biodiversity and restore balance within Ireland’s ecosystem. Operating apiaries across Dublin, Wicklow, and Galway, OpenHive produces raw, Irish honey with each jar labelled with the hive location and unique flavour profiles. To minimise waste, their jars are screen-printed, avoiding plastic labels, and returnable for reuse.

At Wicklow Village, OpenHive maintains apiaries on site, integrating its conservation work directly into the local environment and community. Their honey products will also be available for purchase in selected Wicklow Village shops, giving visitors a chance to taste local, ethically produced honey tied to the place where it was made. This local presence both strengthens OpenHive’s commitment to ecological stewardship and adds a distinctive, terroir-driven food offering to the Wicklow Village shopping experience.
